Nearly two-thirds of the standard multi-stop Stonehenge tours reviewed by StonehengeVisit.co.uk advertised a cheapest fare that did not include admission to Stonehenge, new research into tour prices and inclusions has found.
StonehengeVisit.co.uk analysed 26 publicly advertised Stonehenge tours from four established London tour operators. Among the 13 standard multi-stop tours reviewed, 8 — or 62% — advertised a lowest-priced option that did not include Stonehenge admission.
Across the full sample of 26 tours, including direct, special-access, small-group and luxury products, 31% of the cheapest advertised fares reviewed did not include Stonehenge admission.
The cheapest-looking Stonehenge tour may not be the cheapest way to visit
Visitors comparing Stonehenge tours from London are often presented with a prominent “from” price. But the research shows why travellers need to look beyond that headline figure before deciding which tour represents the best value.
Operators structure their packages differently. Some include coach travel and admission to Stonehenge in the lowest advertised price, while others offer a cheaper transport or sightseeing option with attraction admission available separately or through a higher-priced package.
As a result, a tour visiting Stonehenge alongside Bath, Windsor or Oxford can sometimes display a lower starting price than a direct Stonehenge-only trip, despite the cheapest multi-stop option not actually including entry to the monument.
Direct Stonehenge tours performed differently
The clearest contrast in the research was between standard direct tours and standard multi-stop tours.
Direct Stonehenge tours
All four standard direct Stonehenge-only tours included Stonehenge admission in the cheapest advertised price reviewed.
Their average advertised starting price was approximately £61.91 per adult on the research date.
Multi-stop Stonehenge tours
Among 13 standard tours combining Stonehenge with one or more additional destinations, eight advertised a cheapest option that did not include Stonehenge admission.
That represents 62% of the standard multi-stop sample.
This does not mean that direct tours are always cheaper or better. Multi-stop tours can offer considerably more sightseeing in a single day. The research instead highlights the importance of comparing what is actually included in each fare rather than comparing headline prices alone.
Adding Stonehenge entry increased comparable fares by an average of £33.25
Four multi-stop products in the research published both a lower-priced option without attraction admission and a clearly comparable option that included entry to Stonehenge.
Across those four directly comparable examples, upgrading from the cheapest advertised fare to the Stonehenge-entry option added between £30 and £41 per adult.
The average difference was £33.25.
Special-access Stonehenge experiences command a significant premium
The research also looked separately at tours offering experiences such as Stonehenge Inner Circle or private-access visits.
The average advertised starting price across the special-access tours reviewed was £153.63, compared with approximately £61.91 for the standard direct Stonehenge-only tours in the sample.
That makes the average special-access starting price approximately 2.5 times the standard-direct average.
The comparison should not be treated as like-for-like: special-access experiences are more limited, may operate at unusual times and can provide access not available with a normal daytime ticket.
What should travellers check before booking a Stonehenge tour?
StonehengeVisit recommends checking the complete package rather than simply sorting available tours by their advertised starting price.
- Whether Stonehenge admission is included in the price shown.
- Whether return transport from London is included.
- Whether entry to additional attractions such as Windsor Castle or the Roman Baths is included.
- How much time is actually allocated at Stonehenge.
- Whether the itinerary is direct or includes several additional destinations.
- Whether a guide, tour representative or audio guide is included.
- Whether advertised prices vary by departure date or availability.
- Whether special Stone Circle or Inner Circle access is genuinely included where advertised.
How the Stonehenge Tour Price & Inclusion Index was calculated
The research was designed to compare the price a traveller first sees with whether that specific advertised fare actually includes admission to Stonehenge.
Prices in the travel market are dynamic and can change according to departure date, availability, promotions and package selection. The findings therefore represent a snapshot of the market on 10 September 2026, rather than a guarantee of future prices.
